How to Greet with People in China

Dear friends, if you live in China, then you may need to greet with Chinese people. How to greet with Chinese people? Let our online mandarin tutor teach you.

Hello-“你好!(Ni3hao3!)”

A simple “你好!(Ni3hao3!)” shows hospitality and friendliness when you meet people. Chinese people will always be happy if a foreigner to whom they are talking can speak some simple Chinese. Chinese people are warm-hearted and are always ready to help others, so just feel free to ask for their help if you need. We should know how to introduce ourselves when meeting others for the first time, and know how to introduce others as well. Both are basic etiquette.

Wish You-祝你(Zhu4 ni3)

(zhu4)...” is a typical expression to give blessing in Chinese. For examples, we often say “祝你一路顺风(Zhu4 ni3 yi2 lu4 shun4feng1.) I wish you a smooth journey!” Besides, our Mandarin tutor can help you learn more about “Wish you.”

祝你一路平安(Zhu4 ni3 yi2 lu4 ping2an2) Wish you a pleasure journey!” When we see somebody off.

We usually say “祝你生日快乐。(Zhu4 ni3 sheng1ri4 kuai4le2.) Happy birthday to you.” on a friend’s birthday.

And we often say “祝您早日康复!(Zhu4 nin2 zao3ri4 kang1fu4!) Get well soon!” when somebody is ill.

When somebody starts a company, we say “祝您生意红火(Zhu4 nin2 sheng1yi4 hong2huo3.) Wish your business a great success.”

In Chinese, we use the character “(nin2)” to address our superiors, seniors and teachers. It shows our respect. In general circumstances, for example, when addressing a friend, use of the character “(ni3) you” is OK.
